Monte Alban Mezcal with worm

Produced in Oaxaca, Mexico, Monte Alban is one of the best-known commercial mezcal brands and takes its name from the ancient Zapotec archaeological site of Monte Albán. Made from 100% agave, the spirit reflects the traditional Mexican craft of cooking, fermenting and distilling agave to create a characteristically smoky mezcal. The brand is particularly recognisable for its distinctive bottle containing a gusano, or agave larva — a practice that became popular commercially in Oaxaca during the mid-20th century.

Tasting Note

Rich and smoky, with charred agave, green vegetal notes and warming spice. The palate brings roasted vegetables, oak and peppery cinnamon, with subtle hints of coffee and sweet chutney. Dry and gently bitter on the finish, with lingering smoke and peppery spice.
