Long ago in ancient Mexico, a lightning bolt struck the heart—or gem—of the agave plant, burning and fermenting its sugars and producing the plant’s precious, magical sap known today as mezcal.

Gem & Bolt Mezcal and Damiana is made in Oaxaca, Mexico by a fourth-generation master distiller with espadín agave and fresh mountain spring water. A procedure that is heavily influenced by hundreds of years of tradition.

Espadín agave, a stoic plant pollinated by bats at night, can take up to ten years to grow in the daylight. Their agave is hand-harvested, carefully wood-roasted in earth-pit furnaces, then mashed using a traditional tahona stone. Roasted mash is fermented organically in wooden vats and meticulously distilled in tiny copper stills.

Tasting Note

Gem & Bolt Mezcal and Damiana is made using, you guessed it, damiana; a flowering shrub native to Mexico. Long adored by the Maya and Aztec for its many mood-elevating characteristics and for bestowing magical abilities in the bedroom, this cherished and uplifting herb naturally compliments Gem & Bolt mezcal’s heart-opening properties.

Aromas and flavours of  a herbaceous nature with peppermint, lavender and eucalyptus – almost bordering on medicinal!

Slightly sweet and fruity on the tongue.

Our favourite has to be the “Smoke on my Sweater.”


  • 50ml Gem & Bolt Mezcal and Damiana.
  • 40ml Fresh Brewed Coffee.
  • 1tsp Maple Syrup.
  • 40ml Aquafaba.
  • 3-4 Coffee Beans.
  • Dried Damiana Leaves.
Dry shake the aquafaba in a cocktail shaker.
Add the remaining ingredients plus a few cubes of ice and shake again.
Strain into a coup glass and garnish with the Damiana leaves and ground coffee beans.
