Quiquiriqui Mezcal was founded in 2011 to bring traditionally crafted single estate mezcal to the UK. They partner with multi-generational mezcalero families like the Mendezes who have been handcrafting mezcal for over 100 years in Matatlan, Oaxaca.
Mezcal aficionada Melanie Symonds founded Quiquiriqui Mezcal after falling in love with traditionally made Oaxacan mezcal. Unable to source an affordable traditional mezcal in the UK for her Oaxacan restaurant, she partnered with the Mendezes to create Quiquiriqui – named after her restaurant. Together with the Mendez family, Melanie distils their mezcal in batches using 350L copper pot stills. They follow artisanal methods passed down through generations. The Mendezes are dedicated to sustainability, running an agave replanting nursery and participating in community education programs.

Quiquiriqui Mezcal uses mature Espadin Agave sustainably harvested from Oaxaca. The piñas are roasted in underground pits and milled using a stone tahona wheel. After natural fermentation, it’s distilled twice in copper alembics.

Tasting Note

Citrus, herbs and earth on the nose — lemon and lime zest mingling with cracked black pepper and subtle smoky undertones of charred pineapple and roasted agave. A gentle sweetness of plantain, honeydew melon and vanilla on the palate, giving way to charred agave, dried thyme and sage with an alluring briny minerality. Smooth on the finish, with woodsmoke and roasted chilli lingering.
