Del Maguey, San Luis Del Rio Mezcal Single Village

47.0% | 70.0cl

Del Maguey was founded in 1995 by artist Ron Cooper, who became fascinated by the traditional mezcals he encountered while travelling through Oaxaca. Rather than creating a generic commercial mezcal, Del Maguey works directly with individual Zapotec and Mixtec producer families, celebrating the character of each village and its traditional production methods. San Luis del Río was one of the first two expressions introduced by Del Maguey and remains one of its signature mezcals.
Made by the Cruz Nolasco family in the hot, narrow valley of San Luis del Río, the mezcal uses Espadín agave, matured for around 7–8 years. The agave is traditionally roasted in an underground pit, naturally fermented and twice distilled in copper stills. The distinctive terroir of the village — including its old mango groves and the Red Ant River — is reflected in the spirit.

Tasting Note

Rich, smoky and beautifully expressive, with ripe mango and tropical fruit alongside roasted agave, green pepper and earthy cocoa. The palate is creamy and smooth, developing dried chilli, jalapeño and gentle spice, with warming smoke and a clean, dry finish. Full-flavoured yet remarkably balanced at 47% ABV.
