This exceptional Wrecking Coast Rye Whiskey starts with the finest organic rye sourced from local farms along the rugged Cornish coastline. The rye is then double distilled in small batches using Wrecking Coast‘s signature copper pot stills to produce a smooth, richly flavoured spirit. After 8 patient years mellowing in American oak casks, the whisky finishes its journey in premium Oloroso sherry casks from Spain.

Tasting Note

Nose: Aromas of salty butter and sweet jammy brambles waft up, accompanied by hints of lightly toasted rye bread. The fresh berries are balanced by floral honey and herbal, spicy rye spices like cinnamon, tarragon and a wisp of spearmint. Buttery salted caramel joins with gentle baking spices.

Palate: Juicy blackberries and blackcurrants burst forward, their leafy bramble notes sprinkled with brown sugar sweetness. Subtle anise grows into rich black liquorice, with a touch of cooling mint chocolate and earthy oak. Layers of chocolatey fruit and sweet-tart berries sit atop a solid base of earthiness.

Finish: The bittersweet flavours of treacle toffee and black liquorice fade slowly, leaving behind lingering herbal, leafy traces.

To allow the complex flavours to shine, Wrecking Coast Rye Whiskey is best served neat or with a touch of water to open up the flavours and aromas. However, for a refined cocktail highlighting the whisky’s sherry cask finish, try the Coast Fashioned:
  • 50ml Wrecking Coast Rye Whiskey
  • 15ml Pedro Ximenez sherry
  • 2 dashes angostura bitters
  • 1 dash orange bitters

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with ice and stir until well-chilled. Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube. Garnish with an orange twist.

The Pedro Ximenez sherry complements the whisky’s richness, while angostura and orange bitters lend depth and bitterness. The large ice cube gradually dilutes the cocktail, allowing the flavours to evolve in the glass.
