Amaro Montenegro
23.0% | 70.0cl
Created in Bologna in 1885 by the adventurous herbalist and self-taught alchemist Stanislao Cobianchi, Amaro Montenegro was originally known as Elisir Lungavita. In 1896, Cobianchi renamed it in honour of Princess Elena of Montenegro, who married the future King of Italy that year. More than 130 years later, the original recipe remains closely guarded.
Made from more than 40 botanicals sourced from around the world, including citrus peel, spices, dried fruit, roots, flowers and woods, the botanicals are boiled, macerated and distilled before being blended into the final liqueur. A tiny quantity of a secret botanical distillate known as Il Premio provides the finishing touch
Tasting Note
Bright and aromatic, with sweet and bitter orange, mandarin and citrus peel followed by delicate herbs, thyme and marjoram. Warm spices and balsamic notes of eucalyptus and incense add complexity, while subtle toasted and woodland flavours develop on the finish. Silky and beautifully balanced between sweetness and bitterness, with a gently bitter, refreshing finish.
