Mayfield Rhubarb and Ginger Gin Liqueur is meticulously crafted by master distiller James Arthur Rackham, founder and owner of the esteemed Emporia Brands. James leverages over 15 years of experience distilling fine spirits to create liqueurs and gins of exceptional flavour, complexity and quality. Based on his family farm in East Sussex, James converted 18th century brick barns into a boutique micro-distillery where he makes small batch spirits celebrating the natural bounty of the South Downs.

The Production Method

James Rackham gives Mayfield Rhubarb and Ginger Gin Liqueur his full hands-on attention. Production begins with James’s multi-award winning smooth Mayfield Sussex Hop Gin which he redistills in traditional copper pot stills with a bespoke infusion of hand-picked forced rhubarb from a nearby fourth generation farm and fresh ginger root.

The rhubarb is harvested at peak ripeness for maximum sweet-tart flavour and rosy pink hue. The ginger adds warmer spice notes. Pure spring water from the downs is used to gently dilute it to the perfect ABV. James distils this liqueur in small batches which allows time for the rhubarb and ginger essence to properly permeate. Taking his time with the process enables a harmonious blending of flavours.

Throughout each step, James relies on his senses of sight, smell and taste to achieve the ideal balance and character. His painstaking attention results in a liqueur that perfectly showcases the rhubarb and ginger.

Tasting Notes

Mayfield Rhubarb and Ginger Gin Liqueur can be elegantly sipped on its own or turned into imaginative cocktails.

For simple sophistication, pour the liqueur into a chilled coupe glass with a slice of crystallized ginger floating on top. For a visually stunning sip, create a Rhubarb Bellini by topping up a flute with Prosecco and adding 25ml of the pink liqueur.

James recommends a Rhubarb & Ginger Martini – muddle fresh rhubarb and lime then shake vigorously with the liqueur before straining into a glass.
