A Gin Steeped in History
In the late 19th century, the British Empire expanded its reach across Africa. The coastal city of Mombasa, located opposite Zanzibar, became a bustling port and the main commercial hub of East Africa. It was here in 1885 that officers of the British East Africa Protectorate founded the legendary Mombasa Club – an exclusive social club and essential part of colonial life. Members would gather to exchange news and enjoy gin & tonics – specifically Mombasa Club London Dry Gin, distilled and bottled in England for the club. Today, Mombasa Club London Dry Gin pays homage to those pioneering adventurers who brought gin to the shores of Africa.
From England, with Botanicals
Despite dating back to the 1800s, Mombasa Club is a very modern premium London Dry gin bottled at 41.5% ABV. It is distilled 4 times in England using a traditional copper pot still and a botanical mix of juniper, coriander, cassia, and cumin. The result is a complex spirit reflecting the pure English gin style.
Tasting Note
Sharp, piney juniper leads on the nose, balanced by fresh citrus and bright herbal notes, with earthy liquorice root, cinnamon and cardamom beneath. Smooth and satiny on the palate, with juniper transitioning to mellow cooked fruit and complex layers of spice — cassia, cracked black pepper, ginger, nutmeg. The finish is long, with spicy botanicals and subtle citrus oils lingering.
