About the Producer

The wine is 50% Awatere Valley fruit from vineyards on both sides of the river. South bank soils are deep fertile silt loams; north bank soils are stony, shallow silt loams. The dry, windy climate produces small, thick-skinned berries with herbal intensity. Wairau Valley sites in Rapaura and Southern Valleys, warmer with loams, gravelly alluvium, and clays, contribute tropical and ripe citrus notes. Vines use vertical shoot positioning with balanced pruning. Picking is based on flavour. Minimal skin contact and cool fermentations with neutral yeast in stainless steel preserve fresh varietal character. Lees aging adds texture. The blend creates a layered, flavoursome wine.

Food Pairing

The bright, crisp Sauvignon is a perfect match with all sea beasties from delicate freshly caught seafood to rich and meaty barbecued king prawns.
