Montresor, ‘La Colombaia’, Amarone della Valpolicella
Veneto | Italy

An authentic, richly flavoured and punchy Amarone. Heavy plum and berry fruit with a welcome bite of dryness on the finish.
About the Producer
Made from a blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes. The grapes are hand harvested at the end of October. The late harvested grapes are dried for four months (until January following the vintage) and then crushed. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel for four months followed by maturation in Slavonian oak casks and small barrels for 2 years.
Food Pairing
Perfect with mature hard cheeses and blue cheeses. Also excellent with game and mature beef.

Fun Fact
In Thomas Harris’s novel The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal Lecter pairs his cannibalistic meal of liver with fava beans and “a big Amarone”. The movie adaptation, however, changed the wine pairing, as Amarone was considered less known at the time.
