Dom. des Herbauges ‘La Roche Blanche’, Muscadet sur Lie
Loire Valley | France

Made from 50 year old vines. A charming, full-bodied Muscadet that boasts expressive minerality, honey nuances and grapefruit. Light, crisp and lemon-y on the finish.
About the Producer
This family estate, in production since 1864, is now the largest single estate in the region. The vineyards enjoy an exceptional microclimate—Atlantic warmth brings an early spring, while Lac de Grandlieu acts as a natural heater during the growing season. Fourth-generation winemaker Jérôme is dedicated to sustainability, with over 100% grass cover to control vine vigor and manage rain at harvest. The 6-hectare vineyard has 45- to 70-year-old vines grown on rocky schist soils with quartz and flint pebbles. Fermented at low temperatures, the wine matures on lees for 8–14 months with regular bâtonnage, then is bottled straight from the lees, preserving a light natural spritz.
Food Pairing
Excellent aperitif. Pair with delicate salmon, seafood dishes, mature goats cheese or Asian cuisine.

Fun Fact
The name “Muscadet” doesn’t refer to the grape variety (Melon de Bourgogne) but rather to the French phrase “vin qui a un goût musqué,” which translates to “wine with a musk-like taste”.
