Champagne Gremillet Brut Selection

Champagne Gremillet Brut Selection: A Sophisticated Non-Vintage Champagne

The house of Champagne Gremillet traces its roots back to 1895 when the Gremillet family first began growing grapes and producing wine in the village of Balnot-sur-Laignes. Today, the estate remains family-owned and run, with vineyards spanning 42 hectares across 22 different crus (classed growths) in the southernmost reaches of Champagne. This premier area enjoys a slightly warmer microclimate than areas further north, resulting in grapes that achieve optimal ripeness levels, developing richer fruit flavours and classic baked biscuit notes that become hallmarks of the Gremillet style. Following traditional methods, Gremillet farms its vineyards sustainably, adheres to low yield harvests, and pays fastidious attention to detail in the cellar to create Champagnes of elegance and consistency.

Viticulture and Vinification

Champagne Gremillet Brut Selection is composed of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, primarily sourced from the family’s holdings in Grand Cru rated vineyards of the Côte des Bar and Aube areas. The grapes are hand-harvested at optimum maturity and pressed gently by the traditional Champagne method, where only the first and finest juice (the cuvée) is retained. After the initial blend of different crus and vintages, the wine undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle where it aged sur lie (on the lees) for a minimum of 18 months according to Champagne regulations. This extended lees contact enriches the wine and develops the classic brioche aromas and flavors. Finally the bottles are riddled, disgorged, corked, caged and released.
