St Abbs Captain’s Table XO Rum
The St Abbs rum is one of three in the new range from entrepreneur David Owens. The name takes it’s influence from the St Abbs ship; a three-masted, full-rigged vessel which had it’s maiden voyage in 1848 from Sunderland after being chartered to the East India Trading Company. The ship sadly met it’s demise only 7 years later after striking reefs in shallow waters before sinking to the bottom of the Indian Ocean taking with it 100 barrels of the finest cask aged Caribbean rum but miraculously, all 100 barrels were later spat back out on to shore. The St Abbs Captain’s Table rum pays homage to the crew who sadly all perished in the tragedy. On the nose, this blended rum has complex notes of toffee, chocolate and caramel with some spice and oakiness. To taste, it is very well balanced with waves of creamy caramel, salted butter and dark brown sugar with a warming spice from being aged on charred American oak casks.
