Bononia Estate, Koshava, Chardonnay
Danube Plain | Bulgaria

A full and flavoursome Chardonnay with a medium body and notes of ripe peach, apricot and the vaguest hint of tarragon. More stone fruit on the palate alongside honeydew melon and a rich mouth-filling texture. More akin to a new world Chardonnay than one from Europe.
About the Producer
Vineyards are located in North West Bulgaria, right on the shore of the Danube River where they enjoy a continental climate at 35-50m altitude and benefit from the influence of the river. Chardonnay grapes are carefully selected, hand-picked and whole bunch pressed. Fermentation and maceration take place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The history of Bononia Estate is like a journey through the centuries starting as early as the times of the Roman Empire.
Ageing
The wine spends one month in French oak barrels, more to soften the edges than to impart flavour.
Food Pairing
Great with creamy pasta dishes, seafood and soft cheeses.
